Gibson Custom Shop 1958 Korina Allen Collins Explorer
We love unique guitars and this one is no exception. This 2008 Custom Shop Korina Explorer was special ordered to have some (but not all) appointments of the 2003 Allen Collins 1958 Custom Shop Limited Edition Explorer that had an MSRP well over $11K and that was 13 years ago. Allen played an original 1958 Explorer during his time with Lynyrd Skynyrd that he allegedly bought from Eric Clapton. Our Explorer is a one of a kind special order Custom Shop guitar.
This Korina 1958 Explorer has the same tuners and toggle switch cover plate (very rare feature on few Gibson original and reissue Korina Explorer guitars) as the Limited Edition Allen Collins Explorers from 2003. The toggle cover plate was included on the AC Explorers and this guitar but they are not on the 1958 Reissue or Korina Anniversary Explorers. A few original 1958 Explorers were made with a toggle cover plate.
A total of 100 AC Explorer guitars were to be built but most dealers agree that far fewer were completed and our research indicates that the highest number reported in the market is 38. The AC guitars had a Maestro Vibrola, a non-standard bridge, a broken peg-head and were seriously relic’d by the master, Tom Murphy. This 2008 Explorer was not relic’d and does not have a broken peg-head. More importantly, it was built in the Custom Shop with a much preferred Stop Tailpiece and we have never seen another Korina Explorer Reissue like this one.
It is in excellent plus condition. It has a few pin head marks on the back from minimal handling. The guitar was purchased for collecting purposes and never regularly played. The case candy, original gold Strap Locks, Custom Shop Certificate Book and Original Case is included.
We love to trade. We will consider vintage, used or newer guitars, basses, amps, etc… and jewelry, including Rolex and other high end watches in trade. All offers considered.
