1955 Gibson Les Paul Goldtop

Regular price $6,999.00

A very cool 1950s Les Paul Goldtop that we've recently acquired, this beauty is a dream to play (according to my friends who can actually play! HA!) and sounds great!  Unfortunately, the guitar is not all original and and most of those changes are beyond my abilities as a pawnbroker, however hen we acquired this guitar, it had the following description from it's original listing on Reverb:

To my knowledge (and based upon inspection from experts I've shown the guitar to), the pickups and harness are original - pots date to 22nd week of 1955 - as are most of the plastics, tailpiece and tune-o-matic bridge. The original tuners have been replaced with Grovers and the jack plate has also been replaced along with the nut. The original P-90s are strong and sound just incredible.

The guitar has been refinished, but as you can see it is a real pro job, nitro, with a brilliant goldtop. You can also see the maple cap peaking through in the cutaway, below the binding. When you feel the edge of the binding in the cutaway, you can feel that the binding stops at the top of the maple cap. You can also see the rough "chew" in the control cavity. The guitar weighs just about  8.5 lbs. Key identifying factors of a 50's Les Paul.

Here's the real headscratcher about this guitar - the neck and location of the logo on the headstock - it's higher than you'd expect to see. The neck is one-piece mahogany with a brazilian rosewood fretboard, and the headstock pitch is 17 degree, and the tenon is long. The neck is 1 11-16" wide at the nut and has a D profile that is really comfortable. If the neck is original, I have to think it was shaved down a C profile. If the neck is it's not original, I have to believe it's early 60s at the latest based on the specs noted above. This is obviously the reason this guitar is listed at this price.

Comes with 4-latch cali-girl case, which is beat up to say the least, but it's still functional for storage and light transport.
